Grants

The call for Grant and Award applications has been closed on May 15th.

“Greta Pifat” Awards

Croatian Biophysical Society and Rudjer Boskovic Institute are also committed to honor the life’s work of late prof. Pifat.

A “Greta Pifat” Fund has been established that will disburse Awards for several of the best Ph.D. students or young postdocs attending the School. The intention is to emphasize that these early stage researchers are also able to contribute to science at an important level. In principle, it is their Ph.D. work and publications resulting from it, that will be taken into consideration. A letter from a scientist in the field of their publication (not their Ph.D. supervisor) is to support their applications.

Award will consist of a limited amount (200€) to cover for the travel expenses, as well as the free accommodation and the registration fee waiver for the Awardee – a total of 850€.

„EBSA“ Grants

The Organizers are also able to offer assistance from EBSA, European Biophysical Societies’ Association. The EBSA Grant consists of the accommodation support. That is, while the accommodation (hotel Zora, full board) will be free (420€ grant) for the selected applicants, they are expected to pay the registration fee and travel from other means of support.

Both the Grant and Award application should contain all the documets within a single pdf file:

  1. The intended title and the abstract (about 400 words with one optional figure prepared using the provided template)
  2. A short CV (1 page)
  3. A list of publications, if any
  4. A short letter of motivation to attend the School
  5. A recommendation letter from their supervisor (or head of the department /institute)
  6. Specifically, for EBSA Grant applicants, this letter should explain why the grant is needed.
  7. Additionally, the Award candidates should join a letter of reference from a colleague located at some other institution, preferably not in their country of origin or institution/country where they work now.

The applicants are expected to prepare both  a short (8-10 mins) oral and a poster presentation at the School.
The selection will be based on the quality of the work and its and relevance to the topics of the School as well as on the qualifications of the candidate. Candidates from Eastern or Southern European countries and developing countries will be given priority for EBSA Grants. Award applicants will be automatically considered also for a Grant, while taking the above into the account.  A single laboratory can obtain only one grant.

Applicants are requested to send their application by email by: May 15, 2014. The application should be sent to biophysics2014@irb.hr and should include a subject line “Grant application” or “Award application”.

Selected candidates will be informed no later than 1st June 2014.

The earlybird registration fee (200€) is applicable for students who were not selected for the Award or the Grant!
